Is it true that only commonwealth countries can play cricket?

By

Is there a rule that only those countries which were ruled by Britain before or have some British connection can play cricket? Could this be the reason why there aren’t so many countries playing cricket?

Not at all. There is no bar for any country to play cricket.

Compared to other sports cricket is a whole day match & it takes more than a month to coplete 1 world cup tournament. so if there r more countries it will be a difficulty. We even have teams in cricket who r not commonwealth country.

There is no such rule. If the United States or for that matter any country wants to participate at Test level cricket, they have to compete against existing Test nations which play cricket at the highest level. There are no barriers to where they can reach -it's just that they're not good enough to play against Test teams right now.

And please stop calling India a Commonwealth country. I take strong exception to that. Only the Australians, Candians and NZ people can take any real pride in being a part of the Commonwealth (because of their British descent). For Indians, the Commonwealth holds no meaning at all -except for the Government of India which maintains its affiliation to the Crown, as a gesture of goodwill -for ornamental purposes that's all. And also the 1.5 million Indian expats in the UK -to the rest of India, the British Commonwealth is as dead as the dodo.

Check the list of ICC affiliates and you will see a large number of countries that aren't members of the commonwealth.

Bangladesh aren't a commonwealth country. Neither is Holland. Both have had success at international level

South Africa was not a member of the Commonwealth between 1961 and 1994.

I dont think that many other countris would join anyway. America seems happy with their own sports, and Im sure alot of other countries are too.

Any country can play cricket. Why should one have to play against a test nation to get into the World Cup?. If USA has a team then it will consist of men of Indian or Pakistani origin (8 out of 11 will be Indians, Srilankans, Pakistanis, Bangladesh etc.) Why there is not a single Indian in any of the major footballing clubs in the world? The only person who played was in France and that too for a single match.
